i wonder how many people actually got that reference. and for the record, i am not one of those people.
I’d like to know a bit more about the etymology of the phrase before deciding whether that is indeed a New Yorker reference. If Mankoff did indeed invent it in 1993, then fine.
You’ve got a point, Rob. It may simply be a meme that someone picked up through the ether. I did some googling and the phrase popped up a lot used by people I doubt have seen the New Yorker comic. I only saw it after it was referenced on NPR, but I’d argue there’s a bit of difference between icanhascheezburger.com and NPR. The former is far more useful.
